Bioreactor Premiere Night Presentation
The Green Team hosted their Bioreactor Premiere Night on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. They presented their research to over ninety students, parents, teachers, journalists and local government officials. The Green Team was split into two groups: the "Why" team and the "How" team. The "How" team demonstrated the process of converting algae into usable biodiesel. The "Why" team presented their reasons for conducting an investigation into the viability of algae-based biofuel. Next, the Green Team traveled to Harrisburg to present their research to Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, State Senators John C. Rafferty and Judith Schwank, State Representatives Ed Nielson and David Maloney, and several members of the Pennsylvania Senate's Environmental Resources Committee. The goal of the presentation was to educate state officials about algae's viability as a fuel source and to garner State government support for our vision of a clean, green future. In preparation for the trip, the Green Team altered their original premiere night presentation by adding information about the Green Team's five year plan. The five year plan included the Green Team's goals for years 3, 4, and 5 and provided additional information about potential Pennsylvania State grants. The Green Team had a successful trip to Harrisburg and succeeded in spreading their vision to influential state officials. Click the title above to view the accompanying PowerPoint.

Finally, the Green Team reached out to the nation's Capital. In Washington, D.C., they presented their research to members of the US Department of Energy and to the offices of Delaware Senator Coons and Pennsylvania Senator Casey. Their presentation expanded upon their Harrisburg presentation by adding additional slides about current government biofuel usage and more in-depth research into the inefficiency of nonrenewable resources. The goal of the presentation was to encourage the National Government to support future algae-based biofuel research and development. Click the title above to view the accompanying PowerPoint.
