From January 20th to January 22nd, the Green Team braved a blizzard to present their research to several important national officials in Washington, D.C. The Team started off by presenting to staff members of U.S. Senators Casey and Coons. The Team was given valuable information about how to procure specific state grants and about some state colleges that may be interested in collaborating in their research. Next, the Green Team shared their project with several members of the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office. These bioenergy professionals gave the Green Team valuable advice on how to improve their project, including information on specific strains of algae to look into and new methods of making algae-based biofuel. Due to the weather, the Team’s meeting with the White House Energy Advisor and their tour of the White house were unfortunately cancelled. However, all in all, the Green Team’s trip to D.C. was a huge success, and it will definitely aid in their pursuit of Grand Prize in the Lexus Eco Final Challenge.
